Language Arts Teacher

Title
Language Arts Teacher
Location
MDC
Description
Language Arts instructors wanted for grades 9-12. Candidate must be eager to work with incarcerated adults of all abilities in a Mastery Based, Self- Paced Correction’s Classroom. Instructors should have a deep enough command of their content area to adapt instruction to a student’s reading level, interests, and needs. As such, Instructors must demonstrate a strong knowledge of differentiation and scaffolding best practices. Additionally, instructors will be trained in Reading Plus, an online literacy program, and expected to implement the program with fidelity and depth. GBCS Language Arts classes are a hybrid of direct instruction, Reading Plus implementation, and teacher created writing lessons. Due to the high mobility rate, candidates must be organized enough to track student progress, but fluid enough to thrive in an ever changing jail setting. You are a master of your content, a curious lifelong learner, and someone who loves working to reengage adults. You must believe in second, third, and even ten “new beginnings.” You are respectful of one’s colleagues and administrators in word and deed and you play a role at all times in maintaining a school atmosphere of civility, decency, and respect among students, faculty, and administrators. You embrace productive venting and problem solving over low-level complaining and gossiping. Above all, you understand the value of a “trauma informed” approach to education. We look forward to hearing from you.
