Jodi Burshia

Dr. Jodi Burshia is Laguna Pueblo and Diné from her mother’s side and is Hunkpapa Lakota, Assiniboine and Sioux on her father’s side. She earned a doctoral degree with distinction from the University of New Mexico in 2021 and her BA and MA degrees from the University of Arizona. Her dissertation focused on understanding the experiences of Previously Incarcerated Indigenous Students in Tribal Colleges and Universities. Dr. Burshia has been a classroom educator since 2000 and currently serves as Assistant Professor of Indigenous Education in the Department of Teacher Education at New Mexico Highlands University (NMHU). Previously, Jodi worked with the Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute and the University of New Mexico. Dr. Burshia is the Recipient of a 2023 NASPA Indigenous Peoples Knowledge Community (IPKC) award for making an outstanding Contribution to Indigenous Higher Education.
